Description

PK 104-29.1, also known as "Jones 1", is a very faint, ghostlike planetary nebula in the constellation of Pegasus.  This object was discovered in 1941 by the American astronomer Rebecca Jones on photo plates of the Harvard Observatory. Two years earlier, together with Richard M. Emberson, she discovered another planetary nebula: Jones-Emberson 1 (PK 164+31.1) in the constellation Lynx.

This is a large planetary nebula with an angular diameter of 320 arcseconds. The central star is magnitude 16.8 and the nebula itself is magnitude 15.6. Distance measurements range from 716 pc to 826 pc (around 2300 to 2700 light years).

I’m surprised that this object is not imaged more often as it is a striking target. The Oiii signal resolved without a lot of difficulty but the Ha did prove to be challenging. This is my first image that utilizes my new Antlia LRGB Dark series filters. Processing of the RGB channels did seem somewhat easier without some of the blue fringing I’ve experienced in the past.
